In the above Aquater Papers (AP1.0through AP1.5), the beginning of life on the sea based on the SEMAN (an ocean going vessel that harvests energy on the oceans for sale on the land) is described. The SEMAN provides a partial solution to the five most important problems facing mankind in these times. These problems are:
- Climate Change
- The Need for Green Energy
- The Need for Jobs in an Era of Automation
- The Gradual Using Up of our Retirement Funds
- The Gradual Using Up of our Water and Food Supplies
In Aquater Papers 1.1 through 1.5, the science and engineering underlying this new life are described, but it’s hard to describe how this life can begin in the dry format of a scientific paper. Therefore, a different format, the novel, has been chosen to this end.
In “Escape to the Sea”, a few adventurous souls build SEMAN and start the task of learning how to live successfully on the oceans of the world and draw others out as well. This is not an easy task. They must learn to use the SEMAN to provide food and fresh water and energy for sale as well as advertise the existence of this new and promising way of life on the sea. In addition, several groups see the potential of the SEMAN for power and profit and fight for control of this potential. Individuals want to make their own SEMAN and build a new free life on the sea. Companies want to build SEMAN for profit. Nations want to flood the oceans with national SEMAN to control the energy supply and the oceans. This novel is about the struggle for control of this new technology and the oceans they inhabit, and how this struggle can result in a new life for the individual and family and result finally in a benefit for mankind.
